Jeffrey Epstein's former accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, appears to have concocted a plan to get herself out of jail, according to reports.
But one analyst suggests that the plan could backfire spectacularly if Maxwell isn't careful to avoid some traps she seems to be setting for herself.
Julie K. Brown of The Miami Herald joined The Daily Beast's Joanna Coles on the outlet's podcast on Monday to discuss the case. As it appears, President Donald Trump seems eager to offer Maxwell a pardon in exchange for damaging testimony against his political enemies.
However, that plan is not without risk given Maxwell's history of lying under oath, Brown said.
"One can assume that Ghislaine Maxwell is sitting there every day in prison trying to figure out what she's got that would get her some leniency on such a long sentence," Coles said.
Even if Maxwell does have something that Trump finds valuable, she could be putting herself in legal jeopardy by handing it over, Brown argued.
"She's going to have to sort of walk that line between implicating other people and not implicating herself because she was convicted," Brown said.
"Based on the testimony of three young women, there were probably a lot more victims," she continued. "So once you open that door, you're also opening the door to the potential of implicating yourself in more crimes."
