Conservative conspiracy host Glenn Beck compared himself to American icon Paul Revere on Wednesday after announcing that he's leaving Fox News.
"When I took this job, I didn't take it because it was going to be a career for me," Beck said. "Paul Revere did not get up on that horse and say, 'I'm going to do this for the rest of my life.' He got off the horse at some point and fought in the revolution."
In typical fashion, Beck ominously warned his viewers that America was heading into "deep and treacherous waters."
"Fox is one of the only places you'll find truth," he said at the end of his show. "Spread the word. Stick together. And together we will do the right thing for our country and for our world."
Beck announced plans to "transition off" his Fox News program in favor of a realigned agreement between Fox and his production company, Mercury Radio Arts.
The deal will see Beck's company designing unspecified new media for the Fox News Channel and other Fox online properties, a news release said.
The release was not specific as to when he would be off the air, saying only that it would happen "later this year."
Beck's viewership had been declining in recent months, even as his stable of regular corporate sponsors shrank due to a particularly effective campaign by a group of progressives upset at his pointedly racial barbs against President Obama.
