‘Good try’: Nunes taunts CNN reporter asking if he’s actually recused himself from Russia probe

Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes (R-CA) on Tuesday fled from CNN’s Manu Raju “kinda laughing, kinda serious,” then taunted the reporter when he asked him a question.

“Have you stepped aside?” the reporter asked, according to CNN’s Tom LoBianco. “Still signing the subpoenas?”

“Good try,” Nunes replied, declining to answer the question.

On April 6, Nunes “stepped aside” from the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation into Russia’s influence in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion with Donald Trump’s campaign. He also designated two fellow representatives to “temporarily take charge” of the investigation.

That decision came after increased scrutiny over Nunes’ coordination with the White House. Days before his recusal, Nunes visited the White House grounds to obtain sensitive information from three White House officials with reported loyalty to former Trump National Security Adviser Mike Flynn. Nunes disclosed that information in a hastily-planned press conference that provided de facto credence to the president’s false claims that Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower during the 2016 election.

Last week, Nunes signed off on all seven subpoenas issued by the House Intel Committee, including three subpoenas Democrats say were issued unilaterally and without consulting the minority party. Those three related to the sensitive information Nunes obtained from Flynn loyalists on the White House grounds.
