President Donald Trump has launched a retribution campaign against eight Indiana state senators who opposed his redistricting measures, intensifying divisions within the state's Republican Party ahead of midterm elections, The Dispatch reports.
After his bid to redraw congressional boundaries failed, Trump endorsed primary challengers against the opposing senators.
Republican caucus chairman Travis Holdman explained his opposition, citing concerns that the White House rushed the process and failed to provide maps for review before the floor vote. Holdman told Vice President JD Vance the legislators needed to see the maps beforehand, but they weren't released until Dec.1.
Holdman expressed worry that the divisive battle would damage GOP unity, stating the party had "lost our ever-loving mind" over the issue and warning it would take decades to recover from the damage caused by the conflict.
