Video footage has resurfaced showing Mooresville, North Carolina, Mayor Chris Carney without pants inside the town hall after hours with a female journalist, according to The Wall Street Journal on Friday.
The 2024 incident is now generating significant controversy as three former town employees sued officials, alleging retaliation for preserving footage and investigating.
Town commissioners passed a no-confidence vote this month, urging Carney to resign.
A judge ordered the town to release the video, though officials appealed the decision on Wednesday.
Carney publicly apologized, describing it as an innocent visit resulting from a negative reaction to alcohol and medication that caused him to vomit, explaining he removed his pants to clean them. Residents are divided, with some calling for his resignation, though Carney shows no indication of stepping down. His term ends in 2027.
Commissioner Eddie Dingler acknowledged the incident continues to distract the community.
