GOP consultant bizarrely defends Trump's wall money grab: 'He's a man of his word in many ways -- so he going to lie'

Appearing on MSNBC on Saturday afternoon, a Republican consultant who worked with conservative Evan McMullin on his insurgent presidential campaign against Donald Trump, stumbled when trying to explain why the president will get away with grabbing over $6 billion dollars for his ill-fated border wall.

Speaking with host Kendis Gibson, consultant Rina Shah explained that Trump is a "Teflon president"whose base will never turn on him, giving him wide latitude to say whatever comes to mind -- truthful or not.

As part of a discussion on Trump's re-electability, Shah described the path Trump will likely take in light of his national emergency wall announcement.

"I think Trump is a man of his word in many ways and I think this wall issue -- he doesn't want to let it go away," she explained. "He's going to lie, pull out all the stops. I don't think he cares about the numbers or governing. I think he cares about being well-liked and this is a simple fact now."

"He's going to really focus on his re-election," she continued. "If it means lying, abandoning people like Ann Coulter and embracing those who embrace him like [Sean] Hannity, he's going to do whatever it takes. The power of the incumbency is with him. Any challenger who comes at him right now is just dead in the water already."
