GOP senator calls on DOJ to reopen case against billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) on Friday called on the Department of Justice to reopen its case against billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein after a judge ruled on Thursday that the DOJ violated the rights of the women who accused him of sexually abusing them when they were teenagers.

Sasse, reacting to U.S. District Judge Kenneth A. Marra's ruling that current Trump Labor Secretary Alex Acosta broke the law when he crafted a plea deal for Epstein without properly informing his accusers, said it was time for the DOJ to make up for its past actions by prosecuting Epstein for sex crimes.

"Jeffrey Epstein is a monster and his victims deserve justice," he said. "I'm relieved that the court agrees it was wrong to hide this child rapist's pathetically soft deal from his victims, in violation of federal law."

Sasse also called on the DOJ to look at prosecuting "anyone else who abused these children," as Epstein was allegedly notorious for inviting powerful politicians to take part in abusing the girls he'd recruited.

Although Epstein had to register as a sex offender as part of his plea deal, he faced no jail time despite allegations that he'd sexually abused at least 30 different teenagers.
