GOP strategist gives up on Trump: He makes Republicans look like 'a band of idiots'

A GOP consultant admitted defeat over being represented by President Donald Trump on MSNBC Sunday morning, saying the president's antics makes Republicans look like idiots.

Appearing on AM Joy with host Joy Reid, strategist Christopher Metzler was put in the position of defending Trump after the president tweeted a doctored animated gif of him hitting a golf ball that smacks Hillary Clinton in the back and knocks her down.

"Chris, you're a Republican strategist so I'm going to have to get you to explain," Reid began. "Donald Trump is up early in the morning retweeting and tweeting out memes and gifs, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Do Republicans at this point just tune it out? Do they just not care anymore?"

"Yeah, I think Republicans, in fact, do tune it out," he admitted before addling, "They don't actually care."

He then got down to the crux of the matter for the party he works for.

"The problem is for Republicans," he continued before wryly adding, "it starts to make us look like, oh, I don't know, a band of idiots."
