GOP strategist reminds Trump that 4 of his kids were born to immigrant moms -- just like Orlando shooter

Republican Renaissance man Stuart Stevens tweeted to Donald Trump today, "Four of @realDonaldTrump's children have immigrant mothers." The tweet was in response to Trump's statement that he would impose a  ban on immigrants who come from "areas of the world" that threaten Americans.

Stevens ran Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential campaign. He also told New York magazine in a September 2015 article that, "for Donald Trump to win, everything we know about politics has to be wrong."

Stevens also tweeted that Donald Trump and the Orlando shooter were both born in New York City of immigrant mothers. The shooter's mother was born in Afghanistan. Trump's mother was born in Scotland. Two of Trump's wives are foreign-born. Melania Trump was born in Slovenia, one of the countries that was formed as a consequence of the Yugoslavian Civil War.

Trump's first wife, Ivana, was born in the former Czechoslavakia. She married an Austrian in order to leave the country when it was still behind the Iron Curtain. She married Trump in 1977, when she was still a Czech citizen. She did not become an American until eleven years later.

Trump has also said that he wants to challenge the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, on the grounds that the amendment is "unconstitutional." He has yet to explain how the Constitution can be unconstitutional, but as with most things, Trump already told Bill O'Reilly that a new amendment to the Constitution "would take too long," so he would try to find a way to figure out whether "anchor babies are illegal."

The term, "anchor baby" is the slur that implies that immigrants give birth on American soil so that their children will be American. The Fourteenth Amendment, which was passed in the wake of the emancipation of slaves, was created to make sure that former slaves -- born on American soil -- would be counted as full citizens. The law continues to protect citizens, such as Trump's children, who are children born of immigrant mothers on American soil.
