Gov. Nikki Haley mocks Ann Coulter as conservatives continue to direct their rage inwards

Nikki Haley, the Republican governor of South Carolina, mocked conservative columnist Ann Coulter during a press conference on Monday.

Coulter had penned a column defending Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump after he criticized the family of Humayun Khan, a Muslim-American Army captain killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq in 2004. In her column, Coulter criticized Haley for not flying the Confederate flag from the South Carolina statehouse grounds.

"Muslim troops accounted for 0.2 percent of all U.S. troop deaths in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars," she wrote. “Southerners accounted for 38 percent of those killed in Iraq and 47 percent in Afghanistan."

"What has South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley ‘sacrificed’ compared to the families of these men?," Coulter continued. "How about Nikki put their flag back up? The Confederate flag won’t lead to thousands of dead and maimed Americans, as Muslim immigration does."

Haley simply responded to the column with classic southern mockery: “Bless her heart.”

Despite being attacked by Trump supporters like Coulter, Haley said she is still backing the GOP nominee over his rival, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

"If I’ve got to deal with these two candidates, Trump is the better candidate of the two," Haley said during the press conference.

Trump's nomination has led to discord within the Republican Party. Most recently, 50 Republican national security experts said Trump "would be the most reckless president in American history."
