'Ticking time bomb': Analyst warns Dems 'caving' to Trump may backfire — on GOP

President Donald Trump and Republicans may think they won the government shutdown, but they may be on their way to signing "a ticking time bomb" of a deal, one analyst warned Tuesday.

On Sunday, eight Democrats voted with Republicans to pass a series of short-term spending bills to keep the government open through January 2026. The legislation is expected to be passed by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, which would end the longest shutdown in American history.

Sarah Baxter, director of the Marie Colvin Centre for International Reporting, discussed the deal Democrats made in a new interview on Times Radio on Tuesday.

"I don't know why the Democrats are forming a circular firing squad over this because, in fact, in my view, they've won and I'll explain why," Baxter said.

"Donald Trump can say what he likes about the Democrats pushing to have illegal immigrants get health care services, but if the Republicans don't do something pretty soon, everybody's health bills under what used to be known as the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare, are going to rise exponentially in January and disproportionately in the red states in poor underserved areas where they vote MAGA Republican," she continued. "And this is a ticking time bomb for the Republicans."
