Kimberly Guilfoyle pushed her engagement to Donald Trump Jr. into the open by buying her own ring and announcing the news herself, according to an unnamed “insider” who spoke to the Daily Mail.
In a deep dive on the former Fox News host, now the former U.S. ambassador to Greece after she was pushed out, the Mail reported that one source familiar with the engagement said Trump Jr. never actually proposed. That person said Guilfoyle "procured and started wearing her own engagement ring during the relationship" before "ultimately prompting an engagement announcement that Guilfoyle herself released."
The Mail also said friends of Trump Jr. "have expressed relief that he escaped Guilfoyle's orbit, telling the Daily Mail they had serious concerns about the relationship."
The paper claimed its own reporting helped push the strained relationship toward its end. The Mail published exclusive photos of Trump Jr. with Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson at a Palm Beach restaurant on Aug. 17, 2024, which it described as the first public clue that he was looking elsewhere for romance, reporting, the two "were spotted canoodling at the Honor Bar, with the Florida beach town's 'smitten' It Girl seen reaching over to plant a kiss on Don Jr's lips three times."
On Dec. 10 of that year, the Mail published more photos of the pair walking hand in hand after dinner. Before publication, the paper said, it asked one of Trump Jr.’s representatives for comment. Hours later, then-President-elect Donald Trump announced he was nominating Guilfoyle as ambassador to Greece.
“Kimberly wasn’t sent to Greece just because of her skills,” a source told the Mail amid the latest controversy. “It also solved a complicated personal problem. Having her thousands of miles away worked for everyone.”
Trump Jr. has since married Anderson.
