Hannity floats rumor Clinton was drunk at rally — then denies it

Fox News commentator Sean Hannity claimed on Twitter that Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton was drunk at one of her rallies last week, Business Insider reports.

Hannity retweeted a post from an account called MicroSpookyLeaks, which read "Secret Service Says Hillary was drunk in this video." Hannity's caption said, "God help us."

While he clarified in a series of later tweets that he had only shared the post because he thought it was funny, he is still circulating misinformation to his 1.7 million followers. This is especially irresponsible given Hannity's position as an individual working in media with a platform for information sharing.  

Hannity has been a firm critic of Clinton both prior to and throughout this presidential election.

However, there is a difference between being critical of a party, its nominee and platforms, and sharing what is essentially a conspiracy theory with millions of people.

According to Business Insider, far-right digital media sources have been circulating posts about Clinton having a drinking problem. Hannity himself has not shied away from spreading similar conspiracy theories either.
