Harry Reid rips FBI's Comey over 'partisan' refusal to investigate Russian hacking of 2016 election

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) blasted FBI Director James Comey in an interview with CNN Politics on Monday, saying that Comey ignored reports of Russian attempts to interfere in the U.S. election for political reasons.

"He was a partisan in all of this," Reid said regarding Comey's agency's failure to follow up on credible evidence that Russia was trying to sway the outcome of the U.S. election.

Prior to the election, Reid sent a letter to Comey sternly advising him that he may have broken the law by announcing shortly before Election Day that the FBI was re-opening the investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server during her time as Secretary of State.

In another part of the letter, he expressed his grave concern over “explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisors, and the Russian government.”

“The public has a right to know this information,” Reid wrote. “I wrote to you months ago calling for this information to be released to the public. There is no danger to American interests from releasing it. And yet, you continue to resist calls to inform the public of this critical information."

On Monday, Reid said, "The FBI director didn't have the decency, the courtesy to even respond to my letter," Reid said. "I got something from somebody in the Government Affairs department -- probably somebody that doesn't know his way down to the Capitol -- saying they'd look into it."

"They looked into nothing," he said. "It's obvious he was a partisan in all this. It's obvious. There's information out there. He had it, I'm confident, and he ignored it."
