President-elect Donald Trump set off a storm of controversy on Tuesday after tweeting that people who burn the U.S. flag should be punished.

But a number of prominent Trump supporters appear to have violated the U.S. Flag Code.

According to the U.S. Flag Code, the American flag should not be used as apparel, bedding, or drapery. The federal code also prohibits the flag from being used for decoration or in advertisements. The code is not enforced -- it was created to ensure proper respect of the U.S. flag.
