Herman Cain: There is a 'phenomenon' of black women switching to Donald Trump

Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain this week pushed back against the idea that Donald Trump was driving away minority voters by insisting that there was a "phenomenon" where black women across the country were pledging their support to the billionaire.

During a Tuesday appearance on Fox & Friends, Cain argued that political pundits "still cannot understand and explain the Trump phenomenon."

"I boil it down to three words: leadership, fighter and winner," Cain opined. "That's what people see and they're not listening to all this other stuff."

Host Brian Kilmeade complained that Trump was getting a "mulligan" for past liberal viewpoints, but he said that other conservatives were not given a pass.

"What Trump is doing that the others may not be doing as well is attracting non-traditional voters," Cain argued. "I've seen many quotes of people who said, 'I have given up on voting, I gave up on it but I'm coming back in.'"

"And let me tell you a phenomenon I discovered on my radio show," the former GOP candidate continued. "I get callers who call up and say, 'I am black, I'm female and I'm going from Democrat to Trump.'"

"They didn't say they were going from Democrat to Republican, they're going from Democrat to Trump. I think that's part of the phenomenon."

Last year, a Quinnipiac University poll found that 92 percent of black people believed that Trump does not care "about the needs and problems of people like you."
