Historian tells MSNBC that anonymous official's account of Trump's 'instability' constitutes a 'national emergency'

Presidential historian Michael Beschloss went on MSNBC Thursday to sound the alarm at the danger that President Donald Trump poses to the United States.

Speaking with MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell about Wednesday's bombshell New York Times editorial written by an anonymous Trump official, Beschloss said that such actions truly put the country in uncharted territory.

"Take that as a sign of how serious they think the problem of Donald Trump really is," he said of the editorial. "Instability, amorality, inability to function."

Beschloss also said that the op-ed is a sign that many within the administration believe that Trump's entire presidency is in the process of crashing into the ground.

"It gives you a sense of things coming apart," he said. "This is someone who is at a high level in the administration writing that the president is amoral, that he is unstable, that a lot of people at high levels of the administration, including part of the Cabinet, feel and have felt this way. This is something that we haven't seen before. I've used the words 'national emergency' -- if this is not a national emergency, I don't know what is."
