House Republicans are afraid Trumpcare won’t be awful enough once Mitch McConnell's done with it

The conservatives heading the Republican Study Committee are sick of waiting for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to finalize the Senate's version of Trumpcare.

According to a letter obtained by Independent Journal Review, the conservative members say that they're concerned about recent reports about McConnell using a reconciliation bill to pass the law.

The House had “vigorous and robust debate,” but reports reveal McConnell simply wants to ram the bill through with no hearings or discussion.

Democrats have charged Republicans with developing the bill "in secret" and intentionally hiding it from the public out of fear.

"There is a group of guys in a backroom somewhere that is making these decisions," the Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) said in a Senate Finance Committee hearing Thursday. Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT) then turned to his staffer, who whispered a statement to him that he then repeated verbatim.

"I don't know that there are other hearings, but we have invited you to participate and give your ideas," Hatch said.

"When you are saying that you inviting us, for what?" McCaskill shot back. "We don't even know? We have no idea what is being proposed."

Most Republican members also haven't seen the bill text and, as a result, conservatives are fearful their promises to constituents won't be included in the bill.

Rep. Mark Walker (R-NC) outlined his own requirements he finds "particularly crucial." They include prohibiting states from expanding Medicaid and phase out the Medicaid expansion entirely, allow waivers for what he called "onerous requirements imposed by the ACA," kill any tax cuts or taxes in Obamacare and gut all funding to Planned Parenthood.

“We eagerly await the day when we can fulfill our promise to the American people and send legislation to the president’s desk repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act,” the letter concludes. “As the Senate continues its deliberative process, we urge you to carefully evaluate the American Health Care Act and consider the important role these specific policies played in building consensus in the House.”

McConnell hopes to have the bill finalized by the end of the week.
