A new book by Huma Abedin, a longtime aide to Hillary Clinton is alleging that a U.S. Senator sexually assaulted her after the two were leaving a Washington dinner, The Guardian revealed.
The passage describes the 2005 wedding between Donald and Melania Trump, which she attended with then-Sen. Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton. The memoir, Both/And: A Life in Many Worlds, then goes on to recall a Washington dinner not long after where she left an event with "a few senators and their aides," but not Clinton.
"I ended up walking out with one of the senators, and soon we stopped in front of his building and he invited me in for coffee. Once inside, he told me to make myself comfortable on the couch," says the book, which is out next week.
The senator took off his blazer and made coffee while they continued to talk.
"Then, in an instant, it all changed. He plopped down to my right, put his left arm around my shoulder, and kissed me, pushing his tongue into my mouth, pressing me back on the sofa. I was so utterly shocked, I pushed him away. All I wanted was for the last 10 seconds to be erased."
She said that he seemed surprised and apologized, saying he "misread" her "all this time." She said she tried to figure out how to leave "without this ending badly," but he asked if she wanted to stay.
"Then I said something only the twentysomething version of me would have come up with – 'I am so sorry' – and walked out, trying to appear as nonchalant as possible," the book continues.
She tried to avoid him for several days but then ran into him pretending as if they were still friends. Clinton walked up to them and Abedin wrote, "as if she knew I needed rescuing even though I'd told her nothing about that night."
She said she "buried the incident" and tried to erase it from her mind. But when Justice Brett Kavanaugh was being accused of sexual assault, Abedine said it all came flooding back.
