Hurricane karma? Homes of climate-change deniers Trump, Limbaugh and Coulter lie in Irma's path

As Hurricane Irma blasts its way to Florida, the homes --and businesses -- of several prominent climate change deniers lies in its path.

As noted by the Daily Beast, bombastic radio host Rush Limbaugh, conservative demagogue Ann Coulter and one of the climate denying Koch brothers may be looking at severe property damage due to Category Four Hurricane Irma making landfall in Florida on Saturday.

And then there is President Donald Trump, whose Palm Beach Mar-a-Lago resort -- dubbed by the president as the "Southern White House"  -- has already been evacuated.

According to MarketWatch, "A 11-bedroom mansion owned by President Donald Trump on the Caribbean island of St. Martin is reported to have been torn apart by Hurricane Irma," although no specific details have been released.

Coulter, who bought her home in Palm Beach County in 2005, recently made light of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey in Houston, tweeting, "I don’t believe Hurricane Harvey is God’s punishment for Houston electing a lesbian mayor. But that is more credible than ‘climate change.’”

In 2014, Coulter was called upon to defend game show host Pat Sajak's attack on climate change scientists calling them "unpatriotic."

“The worst thing and I think the most offensive [argument] is that ‘global warming deniers’ comes from people who are ‘Holocaust deniers,’” Coulter told CNN's Erin Burnett. “You are calling half of the American people, who weirdly enough don’t believe in the apocalyptic predictions that keep not coming true, equivalent to Holocaust deniers? That’s how the debate perceives them in America.”

“We all have to believe in global warming, we all have to believe in immigration — either lots of immigration or even more immigration. We have to believe that Trayvon Martin was killed by a brutal racists, and if you don’t you get called all of these crazy names that Sajak is referring to,” Coulter added.

The Beast notes that David Koch, of the climate change denying Koch Brothers also has a residence in ritzy  Palm Beach.

In a recent interview, former Vice President Al Gore singled out the Kochs, saying, "“The Koch brothers are the largest funders of climate change denial, and ExxonMobil claims it has stopped, but it really hasn’t. It has given a quarter of a billion dollars in donations to climate denial groups. It’s clear they are trying to cripple our ability to respond to this existential threat.”

The New York Timespreviously wrote of the Kochs: "Republican lawmakers’ swerves to the right on climate issues 'did not happen by themselves. Republican lawmakers were moved along by a campaign carefully crafted by fossil-fuel industry players, most notably Charles D. and David H. Koch, the Kansas-based billionaires who run a chain of refineries. . . .'”

And then there is radio host Rush Limbaugh, long a critic of climate change scientists, who recently came under fire for calling warnings about Hurricane Irma a “liberal hoax.”

Limbaugh who has made a great show of his mansion in Palm Beach -- from where he also broadcasts his radio program -- recently claimed warnings on Irma were an assault on President Trump, saying, "The reason that I am leery of forecasts this far out, folks, is because I see how the system works. Hurricane Harvey and the TV pictures that accompany that go a long way to helping further and create the panic.”

After facing criticism that he might be putting his listener's lives in jeopardy he later added, “All I did yesterday — this is the thing, folks, it is so frustrating — and it’s actually getting more and more frustrating.  You can’t, when these people who are so emotionally invested — emotionally, not intellectually — so emotionally invested in an event and in an outcome, when they are, you can’t get to them with the truth. In fact, the truth is the greatest enemy they face and they treat it that way.”
