'Hypocrite' GOP leader slammed for Ilhan Omar criticism after funding ads calling Arab-American Dem a 'terrorist'

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was called out Wednesday for funding attack ads calling a Mexican-Palestinian Democrat a "terrorist" — by the candidate himself.

Ammar Campa-Najjar, the California Democrat who ran against indicted Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) last year, called McCarthy a "hypocrite" for his repeated criticisms of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

"I know for a fact, he doesn’t care about anti-semitism or any form of bigotry," Campa-Najjar tweeted. "How do I know? He didn’t condemn Hunter’s ads calling me a terrorist. He FUNDED THEM."

Quoting the tweet, CNN investigative researcher and reporter Andrew Kaczynski noted that "McCarthy's PAC did indeed donate to Hunter."

"And while the donation happened before Hunter began running one of the most openly racist/anti-Muslim campaigns we've seen," Kaczynski added, "I don't [see] GOP leadership condemning Hunter."

This isn't the first time the GOP leader has been called out for hypocrisy in the face of his condemnation of Rep. Omar's alleged anti-Semitism.

After the controversy surrounding the Somali-American congresswoman's criticisms of Israel first began in February, Twitter users noted that McCarthy promoted tweets during the midterm elections that targeted three wealthy Jewish figures — anti-Trump billionaire Tom Steyer, former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and GOP conspiracy target George Soros.
