‘I plan to continue’: Sessions says he will stay on for now as ‘zombie attorney general’

Attorney General Jeff Sessions responded to President Donald Trump's criticism for his decision to recuse himself from overseeing the Justice Department's Russia probe.

Sessions stepped down from the investigation in March, after his own secret meetings with Russian officials during the election campaign were revealed, and Trump told the New York Times that he never would have picked the Alabama Republican if he knew the attorney general would do that.

But the former U.S. senator said Thursday he had not plans to resign from the top job in the Department of Justice, reported Politico.

"I plan to continue to do so as long as that is appropriate," Sessions said at a press conference.

A reporter asked Sessions toward the end of the news conference whether he was concerned about being "seen as a zombie attorney general," but he didn't answer.
