A new report reveals that Homeland Security and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency are planning a raid later this month billed as "the largest operation of its kind in the history of ICE."
According to agency-wide documents obtained by NBC News, "Operation Mega" will target 8,400 undocumented immigrants over a five-day period beginning Sept. 17.
"The higher-than-usual target number may be partially driven by an effort to reach a deportation goal at the end of the fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30," an official told NBC.
The operation is still being planned, the report continues, and could potentially change or be cancelled "as the agency reallocates resources toward rescue operations in Florida ahead of the looming Hurricane Irma."
