Appearing on MS NOW on Thursday morning, a former Department of Homeland Security intel official stunned host Ana Cabrera when he pointed out the huge gaps in training being given to new ICE hires who are being deployed on the streets on Minneapolis.
Following two shootings in one week after Minneapolis–St. Paul has faced an influx of thousands of heavily-armed ICE agents, the MS NOW host asked Donell Harvin, a former DC Homeland Security Intel Chief, if their training is sufficient.
He then pointed the finger at DHS head Kristi Noem.
‘’If you take the current DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, at her word, the ICE agent that shot Miss [Renee] Good was following his training, his tactics and policies,” he observed. “If that's the case and you take her at her word, then we have a big problem, because what we have is ICE agents that are not practicing proper police or law enforcement officer safety and survivability.”
After noting that Good’s killer is a ten-year veteran of the agency, he remarked, “We have ICE agents that are rolling off the assembly line, so to speak, with far, far less training."
“News reporting considering, consists of 47 days of training for these new ICE officers,” he continued. “I will tell you that in many states, you can become an animal control officer, but you need twice as much training.”
“So think about that,” he added. “Your local dog catcher will need more training to carry a firearm and execute warrants and arrest people than ICE agents. And that's what's concerning.”
