Illinois Republican Senator Kyle McCarter allegedly punched by Democrat Mike Jacob

A Republican lawmaker claimed that his Democratic colleague punched him Tuesday on the floor of the Illinois Senate.

In a statement released June 1, Sen. Kyle McCarter said he was punched by Sen. Mike Jacobs during a debate on Senate Bill 1652, after he called attention to the fact that Jacobs' father is a registered lobbyist for Commonwealth Edison, the primary beneficiary of the legislation.

"After the debate, Sen. Jacobs came to my seat on the floor of the Illinois Senate – using profanity and pointing his finger before he punched me with his fist in my chest," McCarter said. "A colleague rose to calm the situation but the Senator continued using profanity with other senators nearby."

McCarter reported the incident to the the Illinois Secretary of State police and plans on pursuing legal action.

"Sen. Jacob’s behavior was uncalled for and beneath the dignity of the Senate," he said.

His accused attacker, Senator Jacobs, previously threatened to spank and kick former Gov. Rod Blagojevich after the two had a disagreement, according to Pantagraph.com.
