Illinois woman shoots TV with rifle as kids watch: 'A music video by Primus set Mom off and she opened fire'

An Illinois woman shot a television as her three children watched music videos.

Police said 40-year-old Jennifer Ullery told them she was upset by how much TV her three kids – ages 15, 11, and 6 – had been watching and took out her frustration by firing multiple rounds at the screen.

"A music video by Primus set Mom off and she opened fire," said Andrews Doles, deputy chief of Algonquin police. “Mom didn’t say anything, she just walked into the room and started shooting the TV.”

The children were sitting on a couch in front of the TV when their mother opened fire with a Ruger .22 long rifle, police said.

Officers have been called to the townhome previously, including two child custody disputes in January.

Police arrested 31-year-old Daniel Ullery in March 2014 on domestic battery charges.

The shooting incident took place Jan. 20, police said, but officers were not notified until the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services reported a shattered 50-inch Panasonic flatscreen TV on Feb. 9.

Ullery was charged with discharge of a firearm, a felony, and other misdemeanors in the case.

Her children were placed in the care of a family member after her arrest.

She appeared Tuesday in court where she pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm without firearm owner identification and three counts of endangering the life of a child.
