A Georgia man is facing assault charges after he allegedly shouted racial slurs and rammed a vehicle because an 82-year-old woman with a walker had been slow to get into her car.
Savannah Morning Newsreported that the incident occurred on May 26 as Ira McPherson was assisting her 82-year-old mother-in-law, Joan Wilson, in the Red & White Jones Food Market parking lot.
According to a police report, 65-year-old Sherman Crow became upset when McPherson pulled her car to the front of the store to assist the 82-year-old woman, who was using a walker.
Police said that shouted Crow racial epithets like "you n*gger bitch" at the two women, and then repeatedly rammed McPherson's vehicle as she tried to leave. The report indicated that McPherson's car was struck hard enough to caused the air bags to deploy.
“My daughter-in-law was just helping me so I didn’t have to use my walker,” Wilson recalled. “He just started yelling. I was stunned. It was shocking.”
An officer escorting Crow back to his patrol vehicle said that he "could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage as he was talking."
McPherson and Wilson were said to have sustained minor injuries during the attack.
Crow was charged with "reckless driving, reckless conduct, disorderly conduct, making terroristic threats, aggravated assault and driving with an unlawful blood alcohol level," the Savannah Morning News noted.
It was the second time Crow had been arrested for assaulting black women.
In 2014, he was charged with public drunkenness and simple battery for yelling racial slurs and attacking an employee at a Subway restaurant.
