'Incredibly disrespectful': Trump's AG nominee hammered for refusing to meet with Democrats

A former Justice Department official slammed Donald Trump's attorney general nominee for refusing to meet with a Democratic Senator -- while still meeting with two Republicans.

Matthew Miller, a former DOJ official who now is an MSNBC analyst, tweeted Wednesday that he was surprised to learn that Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, was denied by AG nominee William Barr when she requested to interview him before his confirmation hearing.

Earlier in the night, Klobuchar revealed to MSNBC's Chris Hayes that Barr's office claimed the nominee "wasn't able to do the meeting" because of the government shutdown.

“They said I could meet him after the hearing, because of the shutdown, that they weren’t able to do the meeting,” the Minnesota Democrat told Hayes. “This is a first for me, because we did request a meeting… and I have always met with major cabinet members under both the Obama administration as well as the Trump administration.”

As Miller pointed out in his tweets, however, Barr managed to meet with Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

"I have never heard of an AG nominee refusing meetings with Judiciary members before," the former DOJ official noted. "Incredibly disrespectful."

Miller then added in a subsequent tweet: "Somehow he found time to meet with Graham and Grassley today. I guess the shutdown wasn’t an issue for meeting with Republicans."
