InfoWars hero who 'turned his dog into a Nazi' on trial for committing a hate crime

A man who recorded and uploaded a "joke" video of his girlfriend's dog 'heiling' Adolf Hitler is being tried for a hate crime, Haaretz reported.

Last year, Scotland resident Mark Meechan, who goes by the social media handle "Count Dankula," taught his girlfriend's dog Buddha the Nazi salute, and then uploaded a video of the dog giving said salute when he gave the command "Sieg Heil." He also trained the dog to stir when he asked the dog if he wanted to "gas the Jews."

"My girlfriend is always ranting and raving about how cute and adorable her wee dog is so I thought I would turn him into the least cute thing I could think of, which is a Nazi," Meechan said in the video.

Though he claims it was a joke, Meechan was arrested and prosecutors now allege that the rhetoric in the video -- specifically, the repeated anti-Semitic epithets -- could "cause fear and alarm, and stir up hatred on religious grounds."

In a testimony during Meechan's trial, Ephraim Borowski, director of the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities, said the nature of the "jokes" and their repetition crossed a line.

"My immediate reaction is that there is a clear distinction to be made between an offhand remark and the amount of effort that is required to train a dog like that," Borowski told the court. "I actually feel sorry for the dog."

Meechan and his "heiling" dog became a subject of interest for InfoWars' Alex Jones and Paul Joseph Watson, the former of which had the YouTuber on his show to "speak out" about his infamous "Nazi dog" video.
