The Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday released an opening statement from former FBI Director James Comey, who’s set to testify in an open hearing Thursday morning.

Embedded in that document was an interaction between the FBI director and Donald Trump that sparked a debate among political observers. Per Comey’s testimony:

“[Trump] said he would do [contact the leadership of the Department of Justice] and added, ‘Because I have been very loyal to you, very loyal; we had that thing you know.” I did not reply or ask him what he meant by ‘that thing.’”
