'Off the leash': Analyst suggests attack in US may be exactly what Trump wants

The courts may let President Donald Trump “off the leash” if a terrorist attack occurs in the aftermath of the United States' bombing Iran, according to Salon ColumnistHeather Digby Parton.

While polls before the strikes showed Americans — even members of the GOP — were opposed to taking action in the Israel-Iran conflict, Digby Parton believes MAGA world is already “falling in line.”

And she suggested that awful retaliatory attacks inside the U.S. could be exactly what Trump is aiming for.

“Trump believes that his people will follow him anywhere, and history shows he's probably right,” the columnist said. “I suspect one of the ways he will keep them on side is by bringing the war home.”

Digby Parton believes Trump has “assumed dictatorial powers in a myriad of ways,” including putting Troops on the streets of Los Angeles and disregarding court orders.

“So we are already on the road to full autocracy, only awaiting the final verdicts of the courts and Trump's decision as to whether he will abide by them,” she said before warning, “But his executive overreach and abuse of power so far are nothing to what he can do as a president at war.”

If a terror attack, or any other type of tragedy were to happen, “it's likely the courts will take the president off the leash for good and allow him to do whatever he wants,” she wrote.

The columnist went on to say, “Trump's Department of Justice will be happy to carry out his wishes.”
