'It was like a total sh*tshow': Attendee at NATO dinner reveals Trump's private speech left world leaders appalled
June 10, 2017
In the wake of President Donald Trump's comments on Friday that he supports NATO's collective defense clause, known as Article 5, an attendee who sat in on a private dinner with world leaders and Trump in late May called Trump's performance that evening a "total shitshow."
Speaking with Foreign Policy, the source said Trump entered the closed-door dinner with two different speeches to give - but instead dumped them both and winged causing world leaders in attendance to be "appalled."
“Oh, it was like a total shitshow,” explained the source.
“The dinner was far worse than the speech,” added a former senior U.S. official who was briefed on the dinner. “It was a train wreck. It was awful.”
At issue was Trump's demand for more money, with sources stating that Trump demanded the other NATO countries begin contributing 3 percent of their GDP.
The attendee noted that Trump never once mentioned Russia during his diatribe.
