'It's just not true!': Angela Rye quashes Jeffrey Lord's bogus defense of Trump's attack on London mayor

President Donald Trump once again attacked London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Monday by again falsely claiming Khan had told London residents there was no reason to be alarmed by this weekend's terrorist attack.

In reality, Khan told residents that there was no reason to be alarmed by the increased police presence around the city, as a surge in officers on the streets was necessary to help keep London safe.

Trump, however, doubled down and said that Khan was making a "pathetic excuse" for his original statement, despite the fact that it was Trump who ripped the statement completely out of context.

Trump surrogate Jeffrey Lord tried to defend the president's latest attack on Khan on Monday morning by asserting that the president was right to call out the London mayor for saying something he didn't actually say.

David Drucker, a writer for the conservative Washington Examiner, tried to set the record straight by noting that Khan "was simply speaking about an increased police presence," and was not trying to sweep the entire terror attack under the rug.

CNN's John Berman told Lord that, whatever his feelings about Sadiq Khan's response to the London attack, nothing justified the president being dishonest about what the London mayor said.

"Well, I don't think he is [being dishonest], John," Lord replied. "We just disagree."

At this point, panelist Angela Rye became visibly upset with Lord's bogus defense.

"No, you can't disagree on what's a fact, Jeffrey!" she exclaimed.

"Yes I can," Lord replied.

"No you can't because it's just not true!" she shot back. "It's not true! [Khan's] words are right there in plain English. There's no reason for Donald Trump to decide that he was saying something different. He used this as a wedge issue to push this crazy travel ban."
