It's Pence? Multiple outlets report Trump has chosen Indiana Gov. as VP

It looks like presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has his vice president.

Multiple news outlets -- including Roll Call, CNN, Reuters, and The New York Times -- are reporting that Donald Trump will select Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his vice-presidential nominee.

Adding to the intrigue, The Indianapolis Star is reporting that Pence is dropping his gubernatorial re-election bid in Indiana.

Pence was seen by many Republicans as the safest pick for Trump. Other prospective vice-presidential nominees included former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.

While Pence was seen as the least controversial pick among the main contenders, that doesn't mean he doesn't have baggage of his own. Among other things, Pence came under heavy fire for his support of a "religious freedom" bill in 2015 that critics said would give Christian businesses legal cover to discriminate against gay people.

Pence has also in the past called out Trump over his proposed ban of Muslims entering the United States.

Trump will officially announce his VP selection on Friday at 11 a.m. in New York.
