As part of a discussion on MSNBC on Saturday afternoon, a GOP consultant said the American public has every right to know if Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, and her husband Jared Kushner are doing self-serving work on the taxpayers' dime.
Speaking with host Alex Witt, Republican Rick Tyler agreed with House Democrats who have asked for multiple documents concerning the first daughter.
Asked about the House committee request, Tyler said it was well within the rights of Democratic lawmakers as part of oversight -- including looking at the Trump's financial picture.
"This is an extraordinary balance between the legislative branch which has oversight and investigatory power," he explained. "I think these investigations want to do this in a careful way. People have a right to know whether their president is compromised or has interests or owes debt to a foreign power."
"When you are already in that situation and you hire your son-in-law and your daughter who have no experience in government and [ she and her husband] have no foreign policy experience and give them a portfolio that's far beyond their qualifications, you begin to wonder whether they're actually doing the president's business or the people's business, or whether they're doing their own business," he suggested. "And I think the people have the right to know that."
