First Daughter Ivanka Trump will travel to California's Central Valley next month to campaign for Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), ABC 30 reports.
Nunes, the controversial chair of the House Intel Committee, has been accused of carrying water for President Donald Trump.
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who represents Bakersfield, will join the First Daughter in Fresno for her "Keep The House" visit.
"She's popular, anybody from the Trump family is welcome, and we are honored and excited to see them," Fresno County Republican Party Chair Fred Vanderhoof told ABC 30.
Central Valley Democrats view the visit as a sign that Nunes is fearing a challenge by Fresno County Deputy District Attorney Andrew Janz.
"I don't think it's really a surprise, particularly for Nunes, given that he's been so loyal to the president," the Fresno County Democratic Party's Michael Evans noted.
"They are probably the most organized effort we have seen in that district maybe ever, and from what we understand the poll numbers look pretty good so I think Nunes has reason to be concerned," he added.
Rep. Nunes has been raking in campaign contributions from out-of-district as GOP donors reward him for his efforts to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Trump's 2016 campaign.
"Thank you for being here ... a very courageous man -- he's courageous -- Congressman Devin Nunes," Trump said on Monday.
Not all of the congressman's constituents agree with President Trump that Nunes is courageous for attempting to obstruct and discredit the Mueller probe.
Voter Patrick MacMillan tore into his representative in a scathing letter to the editor in the Fresno Bee.
"Devin Nunes should resign,” MacMillan argued. “President Trump’s chief errand boy should leave his post as Representative of California 22."
Vanderhoof, the local GOP chair, expected Ivanka's June 18th event to be held away form the public to avoid protesters.
