'Breathtaking entitlement': Trump niece flattens Ivanka's 'school week' testimony excuse
Ivanka Trump tried to get out of testifying against her father in court this week by saying that she couldn't possibly travel to New York in the "middle of the school week" for her children. It didn't work, and Dr. Mary Trump thinks it is because the courts aren't uninformed and can see that Ivanka and Jared's lives generally ignore the confines of the school week.
Speaking to MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan on Sunday, Donald Trump's niece Mary, chatted about her uncle's upcoming testimony, which will require him not to lie under oath.
"I would pay to be a fly on the wall when the lawyer for Donald Trump tells Donald Trump you need to tell the truth about perjury yourself," said Hasan.
Dr. Trump said that her uncle should be concerned about perjury.
"But what I found interesting [was] his lawyers' behavior in the last week," she recalled, explaining that they seemed to be acting like they weren't even in a courtroom. "They seem to be goading the judge. The judge expanded the gag order that applied previously only to Donald to include his counsel. And I am wondering if they actually have forgotten that the judge is not Donald's base. "He cannot be spun. He is going to be looking at the facts and evidence. And I think that they would be putting themselves and their client in a very difficult position if they cannot impress upon him that he needs either to tell the truth or keep his mouth shut. I don't know how much control they have at this point because, again, they seem to be feeding into Donald's own desires about how this case needs to be going."
When it comes to Ivanka trying to claim that she had to handle her children's school, she couldn't help but smirk.
"Well, as you said, it's very difficult to be a member of a founding crime syndicate," she said. "But I think it just speaks to the breathtaking entitlement of these people that they don't even think that other people are going to look at their past behavior to realize that they leave their kids home all the time. Plus, they probably have lots of help that most people with young children don't have. She also seems to have forgotten that she has a husband who can presumably take care of their children."
Memes have surfaced on social media with photos of Jared Kushner and Ivanka traveling all over the world during the "middle of a school week." Most recently, Ivanka attended Kim Kardashian's party in the middle of a school week.
