House GOP desperately relying on fugitive charged criminal as Biden probes crumble: lawmaker

Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-N.Y.) on Thursday said the reliance of House Republicans on a fugitive charged criminal with links to the Chinese Communist Party as a “whistleblower” poses a threat to national security.
Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) has promoted Gal Luft as a source of potentially damaging information in connection with the Hunter Biden probe.
The Department of Justice on Monday announced that Luft, a dual U.S.-Israelis citizen, has been charged with acting as an unregistered foreign agent, trafficking in arms, violating U.S. sanctions against Iran, and making false statements to federal agents.
“We don't even know the extent of this involvement,” Goldman during an appearance on MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes.”
“China's involvement with this individual, we just know that he's been charged as an unregistered agent, advancing the interests of the Chinese government, and that is incredibly dangerous to have as a witness before an official committee.”
Goldman was responding to a suggestion from Hayes that “these are not people that are trustworthy.”
"He even stated to the New York Post that his ‘whistleblowing’ to the Oversight Committee, is why the Department of Justice is going after him. He was indicted months ago before they even knew who he was, so these ‘whistleblowers’ recognize that they have a good defense mechanism in the House Republicans who will take any and all information without any corroboration, without any verification, and then just extrapolate beyond all reason.”
Hayes noted that Rep. Jared Moskowitz wrote a letter to Comer questioning his committee's reliance on Luft that said “enabling a Chinese-backed Iranian arms supplier and making him the centerpiece of the oversight investigations calls into question whether the CCP has tainted the oversight committee and its work.”
“You want that committee to look into the oversight committees use of this guy?”
“Certainly Chairman Comer is not going to do any deep dive to figure out whether this guy is compromised and is peddling information on behalf of China that might undermine our national security, and if we are going to have a select committee on the CCP…then they ought to make sure that the Chinese government is not infiltrating this body itself, and potentially trying to launder information through an official committee of Congress to undermine our national security,” Goldman said.
