MAGA rioter’s lawyer: There's only an 'extremely remote' chance my client will invade the Capitol again

On Monday, NBC4 Washington's Scott MacFarlane, a reporter following the prosecution of the January 6 Capitol insurrection cases, flagged a court motion over the weekend by a lawyer representing an unspecified "high-level" defendant.

In the motion, the attorney argued that his client should be released and not be considered a danger to the community, because the odds there will be another attack on the Capitol for his client to join are "extremely remote" — since "no one, not even Trump, wants to bring that much 'heat' on themselves."

Trump, who spent the previous months baselessly alleging the election was stolen and spoke at a rally ahead of the attack telling his supporters to "fight like hell," has been accused of inciting the insurrection, which formed the basis of his second impeachment trial.

Many of the defendants have sought to lean into this, claiming that they were radicalized by Trump and right-wing media outlets and therefore don't bear all of the blame for their actions.
