Jared Kushner's lawyer in Trump-Russia probe to stop representing him: report

A former Deputy US Attorney General will no longer be defending President Donald Trump's son-in-law.

Jared Kushner's lawyer, Jamie Gorelick, is "dropping out of the case," Michael Isikoff report for Yahoo News.

Isikoff also reports that "well-known Washington criminal defense lawyer" Abbe Lowell will be taking over all responsibilities for Kushner's defense.

"Gorelick was always in an awkward role as Kushner’s counsel. She is a prominent Democrat in Washington legal circles, having served as chief counsel to the Defense Department and later deputy attorney general during the Clinton administration," Isikoff explains. "She had faced quiet criticism from longtime friends and colleagues for being associated with the legal defense of a top official in the Trump White House."

Ty Cobb will also be officially joining White House staff as a "special counsel" to Trump. Instead of reporting to White House counsel Don McGahn, Cobb will be reporting directly to the President.

Cobb is distantly related to the baseball player of the same name.
