J.C. Penny CEO: 'Ellen represents the values of our company'

Appearing on CBS This Morning on Thuesday, J.C. Penny CEO Ron Johnson put an end to the so-called controversy over talk show host Ellen DeGeneres being picked as the company's spokeswoman.

"She shares the same values that we do," he said. "Our company was founded 110 years ago on the golden rule, as about treating people fair and square, just like you'd be treated yourself. We think that Ellen represents the values of our company and the values that we share."

Speaking on her show Wednesday, DeGeneres explained that she stands for "honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need."

Despite a campaign by the group "One Million Moms" to have DeGeneres fired, Johnson said keeping her on was "a no-brainer."

"It's been unbelievably wonderful to work with someone who is so kind, so gracious, so funny, who just I think captures what America is about," he said.
