'Just sad': J.D. Vance's latest 'weird' campaign video draws derision — and pity
July 26, 2024
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) put out a new behind-the-scenes campaign video that is already drawing widespread ridicule.
In the video, which was highlighted on X by the Republicans Against Trump account, the GOP's 2024 vice presidential nominee shows off all of the free snacks, which he describes as "a ton of crap," that are available backstage at campaign events.
After showing off assorted candy bars, potato chips, and Diet Mountain Dew, Vance said that he had to be careful to not indulge in too many free snacks lest he "balloon up like crazy."
Nonetheless, he said that the free snacks are "the energy that powers the presidential and vice presidential campaigns."
He then encouraged viewers to send the campaign money.

All of this led to a flood of ridicule from many other Twitter users.
"Another weird video of JD Vance," noted Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA). "And why does he have this weird fixation with Diet Mountain Dew?"
"Vance is now asking Americans to fund his Diet Mountain Dew addiction," cracked attorney David Lurie.
"I wonder if Diet Mountain Dew is going to issue a cease and desist order this can't help their brand," wrote Democratic elections official Dustin Czarny.
"Lol this is the political version of graphic design is my passion," wrote progressive activist Brandon Friedman.
The video drew a brutally sarcastic response from the X account that goes by the pseudonym of "Norm Charlatan."
"Dude has the vibe of a salesman who gives you too low of a price on a new truck and then his manager has to come in and tell you that there’s no deal and that he wasn’t authorized to offer the truck at that price," they wrote.
Another user summed up the video by simply writing, "Objectively this is just sad."
