JD Vance’s attack on Texas Senate candidate James Talarico by implying he is gay came back to haunt the vice president on MS NOW, which revived stories that Vance has repeatedly been accused of wearing eyeliner during his public appearances.
Speaking to supporters at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport, a fan yelled “I love you,” at Vance which led the vice president to retort, “I love you too, sir. In a totally platonic way, to be clear. I’m the vice president, not James Talarico,” and then smirking.
Referring to a clip of the comments, co-host Joe Scarborough chimed in with, “We will now go to a campaign rally in Texas where projection was on full display by a man wearing David Bowie's eyeliner. Go ahead.”
A laughing Willie Geist stated, “This is Vice President JD Vance on the campaign trail in Texas yesterday,” as Scarborough mimicked the gender-bending Bowie singing about his alter ego Ziggy Stardust.
“Let me ask you this,” Scarborough interrupted. “Have you ever known a man to wear eyeliner, Willie? Like we know guys we've hung out with guys. Have you ever seen in locker rooms guys like, ‘Oh, I'm gonna get the eyeliner’? Well, I mean, nothing wrong with it if that's your gig.”
“Projection, ugliness, middle school jokes and taunts,” Geist added. “This is the vice president of the United States in Texas yesterday repeatedly making assertions about the democratic candidate, James Talarico, and his sexuality.”
“All of that aside, we just had the president of the United States obsess over a candidate's a--,” Scarborough stated, referencing rally comments made by Donald Trump about Sen. John. Husted (R-OH), “and we just had a vice president wearing David Bowie's eyeliner, actually questioning the sexuality of another man.”
