DOJ formally indicts Nebraska GOP lawmaker hours after he revealed it was coming

Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) was formally indicted by the United States Department of Justice on Tuesday, just hours after he revealed the indictment was on its way during a livestream video from his pickup truck.

The indictment alleges that Fortenberry lied to the FBI about illegal campaign contributions from Nigerian-Lebanese billionaire Gilbert Chagoury, although the Nebraska Republican denies the charges.

Specifically, the indictment claims that Fortenberry "knowingly and willfully falsified, concealed, and covered up by trick, scheme, and device material facts" related to the case.
