The latest ploy to force President Donald Trump's name back onto the Kennedy Center has left former CNN correspondent Jim Acosta furious — and calling for people to go to the slammer.
A federal judge previously ordered Trump's name taken off the building because Congress only authorized Kennedy's name. The Kennedy Center board, stacked with Trump's appointees, has now settled on the loophole that it will put up a huge sign crediting Trump with renovating the building, and naming the plaza it sits in after him.
"I don’t know if the D.C. City Council and the new mayor want to stick their noses into all of this, but it seems to me that if they start chiseling Donald Trump’s name into the side of that building — or doing something to change the signage of that building in violation of a judge’s order — somebody needs to go to jail!" raged Acosta on his online show.
He called the move "crazytown nuttery."
Trump himself won't see a day in jail, Acosta acknowledged. "But somebody on that Kennedy Center board, the construction crews who are out there — they should know that you are not to take a chisel to the Kennedy Center and put that crazy lunatic’s name on the side of that building!"
The performing arts center, said Acosta, is "one of our cultural icons," and "the last thing that we should have happen in the nation’s capital is Donald Trump’s disgusting, shameful name desecrating a living memorial to John F. Kennedy, who was a real president of the United States" — as opposed to the "reality TV game show, dime-store Richard Nixon" currently occupying the Oval Office.
In addition to the planned roundabout renaming, the Kennedy Center board is also moving to revive the previous MAGA plan to close the facility for two years for renovations, which had also been blocked in federal court.
