'There is no worse human': Ohio resident warns GOP against making Jim Jordan speaker

The prospect of Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) becoming speaker of the House of Representatives has sparked a strong reaction from at least one fellow Ohioan.

In a letter to the editor published by the Columbus Dispatch, Columbus resident Randal Morrison argued that a Jordan speakership "is a catastrophe for America" on the grounds that "there is no worse human being to have a leadership position than Jim Jordan."

Morrison went on to cite Jordan's comments on aiding Ukraine in its fight against Russia as problematic and he predicted that Jordan's rise would mean "the end of civility and finding a problem-solving path forward" in the House of Representatives.

"That catastrophe ultimately means one of two things: either all hope is lost or the resulting turmoil breaks the MAGA fever before it is too late," he concludes his letter. "Because of our constitutional structural vulnerabilities, I fear the worst."

Jordan, who has the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, is one of the leading contenders to become speaker along with Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA).

Republicans will try to vote on a new speaker this week, just one week after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) led a rebellion that saw the ouster of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from that position.
