In a heated interview with Univision host Jorge Ramos this past weekend, controversial Maricopa Country, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio claimed that Latinos actually love him.
The Al Punto host wasn't hesitant to tell Arpaio directly that he "was the face of racism and discrimination" to many Latinos, prompting the tea party supported sheriff to say that wasn't the case.
"Well, I’m a pretty nice guy, having lived in Mexico City, South America, Texas and Arizona," Arpaio said. "I’ve never had any problems with a Latino. They love me.”
Ramos challenged Arpaio's claims.
"They don't, they don't love Sheriff Arpaio," Ramos responded. "You are making fun of these people, but they don't love you.
An incensed Arpaio shut back, repeatedly asking Ramos, "How do you know that don't like me?"
"I've seen many polls, and I've spoke to many undocumented immigrants," Ramos said. "And they are simply telling me this, that for them, you are face of America for racism and discrimination."
"Okay, alright, that's what they want to say," Arpaio replied. "Then I tell you what, I'm going to tell you I'm going to continue to enforce the laws."
The Department of Justice has investigated Arpaio and his office since 2008, finding a ride wage of civil rights violations on Latinos in a report released this past December.
