Nixon lawyer shows 'where the worry should be' in Trump's D.C. criminal case

Donald Trump's presidential immunity argument isn't likely to be accepted by the Supreme Court, but he could still notch a win in another way, a former Nixon White House counsel said Saturday.

John Dean, a pivotal figure in the Watergate investigation, appeared on CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta, where he was asked if Trump could potentially prevail on the immunity issue even after Judge Chutkan completely rejected it.

"Do you think Trump might be able to pull this off?" the host asked. "Because you have the right to appeal things and take to it a higher court and there are some weighty issues... could Trump pull it off?"

Dean seemed skeptical of that eventuality.

"It's possible. I can't say it would be impossible," he said, adding that "the fact that Judge Chutkan has written such a strong opinion gives the court every reason to let the criminal trial proceed in its discovery and phases."

The Supreme Court is likely to affirm Chutkan's judgment, he said, warning that there was another potential issue on the horizon.

"The question is, will conservatives on the Supreme Court play this politically and tie it up and drag it out?" he asked. "That's where the worry should be."
