John Eastman now has no reason to avoid flipping on Trump: former prosecutor

With the California State Bar indicating that the disbarment of attorney John Eastman could be in the offing, all eyes now turn to the former Donald Trump lawyer as the next major player in the criminal case against the former president over his attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

On Thursday, Judge Yvette Roland issued “a preliminary finding of culpability,” against Eastman for his part in advising the former president to dispute the 2020 election results.

According to Roland, as reported by Bloomberg Law, "the case will 'move forward with not only rebuttal testimony but aggravation.'"

With the threat of Eastman's livelihood and financial future in peril, he has more incentive to join former Trump attorneys Sidney Powell, Kenneth Chesebro, and Jenna Ellis in working out a plea deal with prosecutors as one of Donald Trump's codefendants in Georgia racketeering case.

According to Newsweek's Ewan Palmer, "The decision from State Bar Court Judge Yvette Roland on the 32nd day of the trial does not mean that Eastman has been found to have committed the 11 disciplinary charges related to his 'false and misleading statements' regarding election fraud allegations, but is one step closer to being suspended or disbarred from practice, as sought by prosecutors."

That led former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance to suggest that any "rational" person would seek a deal.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Vance wrote, "If John Eastman loses his license in the bar proceeding, it incentives him (or would incentivize a rationale person) to plead and cooperate in the criminal case to avoid prison (since he's already lost his license)."
