Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Wednesday scoffed at remarks critical of Democrats by one of their own – Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman – who took to X in the aftermath of President Donald Trump’s speech to attack the party’s conduct in the House chamber.
The war of words between the two prominent Democratic leaders emerged as the 2024 vice presidential nominee responded to Fetterman’s comments in which he called the party “a sad cavalcade of self owns and unhinged petulance.”
“It only makes Trump look more presidential and restrained,” Fetterman wrote Wednesday on X above a Politico report titled, “Democrats’ silent protest against Trump falls flat.” He added: “We’re becoming the metaphorical car alarms that nobody pays attention to—and it may not be the winning message.”
But the Pennsylvania lawmaker’s post-speech analysis didn’t sit well with Walz, who chuckled during an interview on CNN hours later and responded: “Well I totally disagree with it.”
“Did Sen. Fetterman listen to the speech?” Walz asked. “Did he listen to the unhinged nature of the things that were being put out? I don't know, the count stopped at 60 falsehoods, misrepresenting and cheering an unelected, richest man in the world as he decimates the VA system.”

He added: “So look, I'm friends with Sen. Fetterman, we've met on several occasions, I couldn't disagree with him more.”
Walz next took a shot at the “false reporting” of the decorum some claim used to commonplace in the House Chamber, as he mentioned the infamous incident involving longtime Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) yelling “You lie!” at President Barack Obama during a speech to a join session of Congress in 2009.
But Walz quickly circled back to Trump before adding one last parting shot at Fetterman.
“The focus here is on Donald Trump's misplaced policies that aren't improving the lives of Minnesotans and members of every state,” the Minnesota governor said. “...I wouldn't worry about Democrats holding up a sign and I wouldn't worry about Al Green trying to use freedom of speech, I would worry about what Donald Trump is destroying in this country."
